When Brett Goldstein, Jason Segel, and Bill Lawrence When When asked how they got Harrison Ford on the show, Segel said that Goldstein originally wanted a “Harrison Ford-type” model and would audition for people similar to Ford. Segel told Goldstein that they should at least pitch him to Ford first, thinking he would immediately reject him, but at least other people would find out that Harrison Ford had carried the project, sparking interest from other notable actors.
Eventually, Goldstein talked to Ford and sold him the role. Goldstein still doesn’t understand what he did to convince him, but he was thrilled nonetheless. Featured in WatchMojo: Top 10 Best TV Shows of 2023 (So Far) (2023). And the rest of the show is great too.
He has the weird, goofy energy that is needed for the role. Her humor is perfect for the dialogue. It’s a new way to handle the situation. There are no real highlights, just engaging personalities with a hint of quirkiness and family circumstances that are just a little above the norm but still relevant.
Of course, Jimmy’s behavior as a therapist is completely absurd. Just impossible. But we allow metaphorical situations in drama. And in this storyline, we feel a strong determination in the decisions.
You have to put the writers first and try to get to the point. It’s easy and fun for me.
