Windows 10 is a series of personal computer operating systems produced by Microsoft as part of the Windows NT family of operating systems. It is the successor to Windows 8.1 and was released to manufacturing on July 15, 2015, and to retail on July 29, 2015. Devices in corporate environments can receive these updates at a slower pace or benefit from long-term support milestones, receiving only critical updates, such as security patches, over the ten-year support period.
One of the most notable features of Windows 10 is its support for Universal Apps, extensions of the Metro-style apps first introduced in Windows 8. Universal apps can be designed to run on PCs, including tablets, with similar code across Microsoft’s product families. Windows UI redesigned to support transitions between mouse-based and touch-optimized interfaces based on available input devices – especially on 2-in-1 PCs, updated Start menu that includes traditional Windows 7 features in both interfaces, includes tiled Start menu in Windows 8.
Windows 10 also introduces Microsoft Edge web browser, Virtual desktop system, Task View window and desktop management feature, support for fingerprint and facial recognition login, new security features for enterprise environments, and DirectX 12.
